A Marine Corps board recommended late Thursday that the Marine who started an Armed Forces Tea Party Facebook page be demoted and dismissed from service with an "other than honorable" discharge, as reported by Michael Pearson and Moni Basu at CNN.

Sgt. Gary Stein, creator of a page with anti-Obama content, stands accused of endangering "good order and discipline" as well as violating a Department of Defense policy that states that a member of the Armed Forces on active duty may not serve "in any official capacity with or be listed as a sponsor of a partisan political club."

From CNN

In a January 26 post to the Armed Forces Tea Party Facebook page, Stein called Obama a liar. Two days later, he said the president is "the 'Domestic Enemy' our oath speaks about."

In a March 4 posting, he questioned Obama's birth certificate.

A decision will be made in the next couple of weeks by a higher authority headed by Brig. Gen. Daniel Yoo, commander of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

If the recommendations are followed, Stein would demoted a rank to lance corporal, lose his benefits and would not be allowed on any military base.
